but a few friends and i are going to be taking an amtrak train in a few months and one of my friends would like to bring a few alcoholic beverages with her.. i have heard it is allowed, but the problem is, shes underage, hence why this is an immature question. i dont want her to get caught but shes stubborn. she never listens to me anyway. sooo, i was wondering, if any of you guys have traveled on an amtrak train recently, how do they screen baggage? do they even look? or is there an xray thing? is she better off checking her bags than carrying them on? any help would be appreciated! thank you!!
:)

No, they're not going to check baggage, if you mean she's going to carry them with.

Having said that, think heavily before drinking them on the train - it will cause problems, if she gets drunk and causes a disturbance it could well involve the local authorities wherever the train is at the time. Just don't do it.

Agreed- having seen people get carted off the train at 03:00 and get arrested, it's certainly not something I'd risk.

Hell - I've seen people get carted off at 03:00 in rural North Dakota in the dead of winter and get arrested.

Wouldn't be surprised. Fortunately for this person, it was Needles, CA in July.

It was only 103 degrees.

At that hour of the night.

I do hope the holding cell back at the PD was air-conditioned...

They don't check baggage, but I agree with the above comments. It's just not a very good idea to risk drinking on the train and being arrested, possibly in a town you've never been to before. And believe me, the train can stop in some out-of-the-way towns...

Right; if you don't have local ties you're not going to get bail, so what might be at home a drunk & disorderly fine could turn into a week in an obscure county jail.

thank you so much! theres no way id let her drink on the train, no matter how stubborn she is. she wants to bring it so she can drink when we get there and stuff. i guess i couldve been more clear about that one.. but its good to know shes not gonna get "busted" or anything. cuz we'd probably get in trouble too.. thanks for all your help everyone!
:)
p.s. if anyone still wants to add comments it would be nice. reassurance and stuff :)

I'll add my comment here: I've seen people get carted off at 03:00 in rural North Dakota in the dead of winter and get arrested. Not pleasant.

I'd strongly advise that she not try to get drunk with her own booze on the train, and if she feels that she just can't live without alcohol for the duration of her trip, she has much larger problems than whether or not she can sneak her Mad Dog past the conductor on the train.
